Ik maak monotypes waarin ik de wereld weergeef als een obscure cinematografische droom. Met het Amerikaanse ‘suburbia’ als decor onderzoek ik de angsten, neuroses en verlangens die diep geworteld zijn in het moderne dagelijks leven. In mijn complexe en mysterieuze werelden speelt het onverklaarbare een cruciale rol. In ‘Op een dag was de liefde moe’, een samenwerking met schrijver Paul Verrept, presenteer ik voor het eerst mijn beelden in boekvorm voor een groot publiek.

Ik laat met mijn geconstrueerde decors en primaire kleuren het onderscheid tussen realiteit en fictie vervagen. Ik ontwricht de traditionele opvattingen over waarheid en realiteitsgehalte in de illustratie. De hypnotiserende beelden zijn het resultaat van een langdurig proces, waarbij een grote verzameling van foto’s en filmstills dienst doen als inspiratie. De illustraties, die dan ook het best vergeleken kunnen worden met stills afkomstig uit dramatische filmscènes, worden allemaal opgebouwd in vier kleurlagen: Cyaan, Magenta, Geel en Zwart (CMYK)


I make monotypes in which I draw the world as an obscure cinematic dream. With the American ‘suburbia’ as the scenery, I examine the fears, neuroses and desires that are deeply rooted in modern daily life. In my complex and mysterious worlds, the unexplainable plays a crucial role. In this book, a collaboration with writer Paul Verrept, I present my images to a wide audience for the first time.

With my primary colors and constructed sets I make the distinction between reality and fiction fade away. I disrupt the traditional notions of truth and realism in the illustration. The hypnotic images are the result of a long process in which a large collection of photographs and film stills serve as inspiration. The illustrations, which therefore can be compared best with dramatic stills from movie scenes, are all constructed in four layers of color: Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black (CMYK)
