Theorie en praktijk.
Oxymorons zijn tijdloos. Theoretische praktijk en praktische theorie spreken tot de verbeelding. Dat weten architecten, urbanisten en architectuurcritici ook. Toch lijkt er een probleem te zijn met theorie en praktijk in de architectuurwereld. Op veel vlakken spreken ze elkaar fundamenteel tegen. Is er nog een gemeenschappelijke grond ? Hoe kunnen praktijk en theorie aan elkaar tegemoet komen ?

Men kan niet denken in het niets. Om die reden beroep ik mij op de verbeelding en een beeldend denken. Dit is geen denken óver een onderwerp maar het doordenken ervan. Onze huidige beeldcultuur vraagt niet zozeer om het creëren, als wel het transformeren van beelden. Mijn aandacht gaat dan ook uit naar het proces, het inzetten van beeld en concept, het discours. Geen creaties out of the blue, maar voortdurende herformuleringen van werkmateriaal. Op weg naar een nieuwe horizon.

Theory and practice.
Oxymorons are timeless. Theoretical practice and practical theory tempt the imagination. Architects, urbanists and architecture critics are very much aware of that. Yet, there seems to be a problem with theory and practice in the world of architecture. On many levels, they contradict one another. Do they still have a common ground ? How can practice and theory meet each other ?

One cannot think in the void. Therefore I make use of the imagination and a plastic thinking. This isn’t thinking about a subject, but thinking it through. Our contemporary visual culture doesn’t need the creation of images as much as it needs their transformation. What I want to stress in this respect is the process, the use of image and concept, the discourse. No creations out of the blue, but continuous reformulations of working material. On the way to a new horizon.
