"De grote boze wolf, was helemaal niet boos."
Ik illustreer een prentenboek genaamd "De grote boze wolf, was helemaal niet boos". In dit absurde verhaal, geschreven door Jonas Boets, wordt de wolf valselijk beschuldigd van moord. Hij wordt opgejaagd door de jager, waarbij hij door een decor van sprookjes vlucht. Tijdens deze vlucht wordt hij bijgestaan door de inwoners van het sprookjesbos, wat leidt tot een gelukkig einde.
Zelf vind ik het zeer belangrijk dat het beeld meer zegt dan de tekst, dat er tussen de lijnen heen geïllustreerd wordt. Er moet zich veel meer afspelen dan wat de schrijver al geschreven heeft. De tekenaar is ook een verteller, niet enkel iemand die de tekst in beelden giet.

He’s being chased by a hunter, while he’s running through a fairytale setting. During his flight the inhabitants of the fairytale forest come to his rescue which eventually, after a lot of adventures, leads to a happy ending.
For me the main focus is on images that show more than the text tells you. I illustrate ‘between the lines.’ In the story you have to find additional contributions to what the writer has already written. The illustrator is also a storyteller not just someone who turns words into pictures.
