Marijkes work combines human interaction with nostalgic clichés and images with a playful character. Mostly this ends up in crazy projects or absurd adaptions of daily objects. She asks herself the question if things couldn’t be approached in a more absurd way. Next to her own artwork she is touring through Belgium with a travelling sewing project ---Het Naaiatelier--- and she is doing the artwork of several bands as well as the styling of film and photo shoots.
Marijke Respeel bedenkt acts en projecten die klein en herkenbaar ogen. Met projecten als de Meisjes Van Plezier en ---Het Naaiatelier--- veinst ze onschuld en suggereert ze trashy idylles. Middels strategieën die uit de wereld van marketing en reclame lijken te zijn ontleend, port Marijke Respeel de toeschouwer aan om zich met haar projecten te identificeren.
