Narratives are a principal way of structuring the world around us. They frame our experiences to shape our identity. How we construct these stories determines the way we understand reality.
Our tendency to organize information into a logical sequence of events results in conventional methods of looking. I challenge viewing habits by experimenting with the way different story elements are emphasized in my videos. I am interested in discovering less direct connections between cause and effect. By layering images, texts and sounds that are in some way dissonant, I establish a story that is not completely coherent. Gaps appear within the plot, which become fault lines that trace counter-narratives. What is stated delineates the unstated so that the negative spaces oscillate with the positive. My work functions like an optical illusion, where the perception of something objectively existing causes misinterpretation of its true nature.
